Staggered Volume Training (SVT) was originally known as the Weider Staggered Sets Principle, (aka-Alternates, Interspersing Exercises, Jump Sets) and was designed to stimulate optimal new muscle growth. It was used to minimize mental and physical fatigue on the body by integrating one or two sets of a high energy expending exercise between other muscle groups. For example, you may find heavy leg and back work in the form of squats and deadlifts to be quite energy depleting, especially when those exercises are done in consecutive sets. The way to solve this problem is to alternate or stagger one or two sets of say, Olympic-Style Barbell Squats after completing all the required sets for another muscle group.
