Excerpt:

One of the men was still there, watching her as if he expected her to bolt any second. Was he just a man? Or was he a wolf like the rest of them? A wolf in the shape of a human. If he was, she knew it would be pointless to run. He would catch her before she took more than a step.

She studied his face and body. She would have considered him handsome if she’d met him anywhere else. Irresistible. His tall and muscular frame matched his chiselled face. Only the clear blue colour of his eyes didn’t quite match the bad-ass persona and the black leather pants he seemed to prefer. She saw he could blend in if he donned a suit and cut his hair a bit shorter.

Still, the sight of his biceps against the thin t-shirt made her aware of how pointless it would be to run. His muscular legs attested that his bulk would not slow him down enough to let her escape. She would have to bide her time and wait for a better opportunity.

“Are you a werewolf?” Sophie finally asked him, wanting to hear his voice and hoping it would calm her.

“I prefer the term ‘wolf shifter’.”

His voice was deeper than she expected. Commanding. It suited him but didn’t calm her as she had hoped for.

He pointed to somewhere on her left. “Let’s go.”

“Where to?” Sophie hesitated. ‘Did he plan to kill her right away?’

He chuckled. “You’ve seen too many movies, human.”

Sophie stared at him. ‘Had he just read her mind?’ She gasped as she met his knowing eyes.

He nodded as if to answer the question.

“How is that possible?” Sophie asked aloud to forcibly steer her thoughts away from things he didn’t need to know.

“My kind have abilities far beyond your comprehension, human.”

“My name is Sophie. What will you do with us?”

“That’s for my Alpha to decide. Right now, you’re coming with me.” He grabbed her shoulder and steered her in the direction he wanted.

There was no point in fighting him. It was a struggle to keep pace, but that didn’t mean she would ignore everything else. Taking a deep breath, she put her anxiety into words.

“I’ve heard many stories about wolf shifters, but none of them has ended well.”

He chuckled again. The sound felt like a warm summer breeze across her skin, flushing her instantly. How could the sound of his voice feel like a caress? It should have chilled her to the bone since she suspected they would use her and kill her afterwards.

Her thoughts seemed to dampen his humour. He sighed. “You’ve got it all wrong. I don’t intend to kill you.”

“Then what will you do?”

He gave her a wink. “I would kill you with pleasure if I was allowed to.”

“Not likely,” she snorted.

“Then you can consider me to be your jailer for the time being.“

“Great. Sounds like fun.”

“It won’t be. I can guarantee it,” he said sternly.

Sophie just shook her head. What on earth had they got herself into?
