Flash Charts - Digraph’s primary objective: Help students learn to identify and spell one syllable words with a vowel digraph. Flash Charts is the One Syllable facet of SWAN — Spelling and Word Attack Nexus. Flash Charts - Digraph is one of four in a series of programs entitled Flash Charts. The other three are: FC—Short FC—Long FC—R-Control Flash Charts are similar to flash cards, but instead of having one word per card there are multiple words per Chart. Why learn just one word when it is just as easy, maybe easier, to learn a group? All words in Flash Charts have one syllable. This is because one syllable words are considerably more consistent with having predictable sound-symbol relationships. Flash Charts encourages, but does not require, attacking words in the following order: 1) Identify the vowel sound? 2) Say the rhyme (vowel plus ending)? 3) Say the word.
