INTRODUCTION Neonatal mortality comprises approximately two-thirds of all deaths worldwide in infants aged less than one year (1). Ninety-eight percent of these deaths take place in developing countries, principally in Asia and Africa. Most births and neonatal deaths in developing countries occur in home, unseen by healthcare professionals (1-5). In Bangladesh, more than 90% of all births occur at home, and few neonates present to facilities for care (5,6).
