Description

Angelo Lapietra is notorious for his role as an enforcer/hit man for the Chicago Outfit. In 1986 Lapietra was convicted for his role in a profits skimming conspiracy involving Las Vegas casinos. He served his time in a Connecticut prison. Known as Operation Strawman the FBI investigation that foiled the perpetrators was the most extensive ever undertaken. The federal government employed the use of clandestine surveillance for the first time since it became legal fourteen years earlier. Former Chicago Policeman Philip Tolomeo was a key part of the probe. Also a lynchpin of the crime organization known as the Calabrese Crew, Tolomeo identified Angelo Lapietra as Frank Calabrese Sr.'s boss.
