The IB syllabus is the most globally accepted qualification for secondary education in the world. It also, in my opinion, has one the largest volumes of material to learn of any course I have come across. Ebooks provide an excellent step forward in student led learning, which is particularly applicable to the IB syllabus. For IB Biology, which is so wide ranging, and requires a student to gain an in depth knowledge of the subject, ebooks are a major resource.
An ebook enables a student to;
- access all of the materials needed for the whole syllabus (in a light accessible form),
- search easily for particular words or topics, which is crucial in answering questions and background research for practical investigations,
- to learn from many diagrams, illustrations and animations that can all be enlarged,
- sections can be compared, and notes prepared for printing.
This book is written by an ex-university lecturer and experienced biology teacher currently delivering the IB syllabus in the UK.
This guide covers the whole syllabus (except the options) for the IB biology Higher Level.
It covers the following topics;
Statistical analysis
Cells
The chemistry of life
Genetics I
Ecology and Evolution
Human health and physiology I
Nucleic acids and proteins
Cell Respiration and Photosynthesis
Plant Science
Genetics II
Human health and physiology II
This guide should help any pupil to improve their grades and performance at GCSE examinations.
For effective revision I have listed points that need to be learned. All figures that need to be learned and reproduced in exams are highlighted in red.
This should allow effective revision and self testing to ensure a good understanding and memory of particular topics.
