As a university lecturer in the UK for 15 years, and a biology teacher after that, I have been frustrated with the teaching materials that were available to support my teaching and my students. They are either too detailed, or the facts required are buried and difficult to learn. So I decided to create my own materials.
This revision guide is written to help revise for iGCSE examinations with the Edexcel examination board. It is not written to make up the primary notes as the depth of the notes has been condensed to enable revision of work. The books; Biology; General Biology, Animal Biology and Plant Biology are written for more detailed studies and can be purchased from the ebook store.
The iGCSE syllabus with Edexcel is very similar to that of the AQA syllabus with only minor differences, hence this revision guide would also be useful for that examination board too.
I would recommend reading this revision guide in preparation for A level studies, as the gap between GCSE and AS biology is great. This ebook targets teaching up to the age of 16 in biology in the UK.
Of all of the biology courses I have taught, the iGCSE courses delivered by Edexcel and AQA are the best. They are a brilliant springboard for any pupil wishing to study biology further at A level, IB or biology at ages 16-18 prior to university. Alas the UK GCSEs are, generally, a big disappointment and inadequate preparation for further studies in biology in my opinion. But this ebook will support and expand the reading of aspects of most of GCSEs too.
