It is difficult to select a relatively few locations out of literally hundreds if not thousands. Although w are confining ourselves to Western Europe this is going to be a daunting task.
In my travel book, American Odyssey I highlighted an American Based Top 50 visitor attractions in the world and contrasted this with the U.K top 100 or so. The contrast is quite dramatic with the American top 50 heavily based on popular family entertainment and not very sophisticated. Disneyland or Legoland may be great for kids but for mature travellers is this what they want to see? I think not.
Initially my thoughts have turned to places where you could literally spend a packed 24 hours not just on one venue but on a variety of places that you could select to see without spending a lot of slow time scrutinising minute details of the attraction.
My choice at this stage may be biased but I have tried to keep it as universal and logical as possible. I am the sort of person that can bomb around a massive museum in under an hour so this is very much my own view. I had initially devised only 3 books but already there is a Book One on England, a Book 2 on the rest of the British Island nations, a Book 3 on the British Islands, and a Book 4 on Western Europe. Each will have around 1000 pages so producing an giant compilation would not be practical at this stage of technology but perhaps a synopsised version. We will wait for feedback and consider at a later date.
