The Golden Bough: A Study in Comparative Religion was first published in 1890 in two volumes. The 1890 first edition is much shorter than the twelve-volume third edition (1906–1915) and represents Frazer's argument in its original and most concentrated form. Volume 2 reproduced here closes the original argument about the King of the Wood at Nemi. This edition reproduces the standard 1890 text in full.
