A Quaste, which means tassel or bushel in English, is also the name of an imaginary geometric surface created by MFO engineers for the SURFER program. Surfaces like this are called Cartesian products, named after the French mathematician René Descartes. Visually, these surfaces create unusual shapes that inspired many past and present artists. The book includes 25 full-size artworks, notes, and the original designs that inspired each image. It is part of the ongoing exploration of Minimal Surfaces in the Math-Art series.
