Description

"There are lights that illuminate, and lights that blind.
The light of The Angel’s Black Leg both illuminates and blinds.
The Angel’s Black Leg? mounir fatmi started this work, which continues and deepens over time, with a painting by Fra Angelico entitled The healing of Deacon Justinian (1438-1440; Museo San Marco, Florence). The subject? A posthumous miracle performed by Saints Cosmas and Damian, two twins of Arab origin, “anargyres” doctors (without money) converted to Christianity, martyred and sanctified. Deacon Justinian was losing his leg, so the two brothers grafted to him, in his sleep, the leg of an Ethiopian who had just been buried in Saint Peter's Cemetery. This is the Angel’s Black Leg. As Françoise Parfait said, “Video, a hybrid form par excellence, always cites another image.” "
