Though being lower class was certainly no picnic during the Victorian era, Grossmith somehow manages to write a story which is set in the Victorian era, the everyday lives of the lower class and make it hilarious and charming. Written in the form of a diary of an unspecified year, watch—as the narrator does—the lives of those around him, with all their eccentricities and quirks. For those who love period-pieces, and for those who love social commentary, this is an excellent read. Enjoy it as countless others have over the decades, and discover for yourself why it has become such an influential piece of literature.
