Travelling in the 1980s was not as widespread or as popular as it is today, nor quite as straightforward - no mobile phones, no Internet. In August 1986 Mark Richards and Lesley Rush packed in their jobs and decided to travel the world, full circle, east to west. This book is a contemporary record of that adventure, taken directly from Mark's handwritten page-a-day diary. But it’s not just a travel journal - it’s a love story between two people who were engaged in Fiji and married in Hong Kong (under British rule in those days, so all legitimate); a couple who experienced happiness, frustration, fear, illness (Mark mainly), love, boredom, exhilaration and ultimately self-fulfilment; but most of all, the memories of the wonderful people they met and the sheer joy of being young and alive and discovering what was for them an unknown world.
