Walking the King’s Skull is a short little snippet of a fantasy story; a whimsy. It’s partly a mystery investigation, but mystery fans should be aware that the investigation is my vehicle for getting Sir Blades Farfluke into where he’s no longer welcome, rather than the sort of in-depth mystery that will challenge the reader or that is full of clues a reader can try to solve. Rather than being a full-fledged mystery, the tale is an excuse for me to play at the “novel of manners.” Yet of course it’s obviously not a novel; it’s just a short little introduction to some overblown court officials in a fantasy, specifically a Victorian-ish, fantastic Neverneverland.
