Justin Brubaker just wanted to play a game. Now he has to kill a monster.
Justin is a regular middle-school kid from Tarzana, California, playing a fantasy game on his phone. But in a flash, the app sucks him back to the days of knights, wizards, magic, and danger.
Mavis the Magician appears and tells Justin he's been brought here to kill a terrifying monster called the Brymwolf. He was chosen because of his "noble heart." Justin doesn't care about his heart. He just wants to go home.
But before he can open the app again, Mavis turns his phone into a bird that flies away.
Now Justin is stuck in this strange world. To get his phone back and return to his own time, he'll have to pass dangerous tests and battle weird creatures. With a Saxon boy named Cuthbert and his pet pig Walter, Justin heads out on his quest.
