This book examines the role of moral emotions (shame, guilt and pride) in child sexual assault. These emotions have been largely ignored in the research into child sexual assault, because low self-control/self-regulation has been hypothesised to explain why some offenders appear to act against their own desires/morals. However, the studies in this book found that an examination of moral emotions can help explain some of the empirical findings about child sexual assault, such as why younger offenders, those who molest boys and victims outside their own families are more likely to reoffend.
