The Sword of Heaven was first published in 1999 by Travelers' Tales Books. I have recently regained the rights from the publisher and am now reissuing the book as an e-book. (Used hardcopy copies are still available). The book is a Cold War memoir that weaves together two intertwined narratives: my childhood growing up in Livermore, California-complete with a backyard bomb shelter and the constant shadow of nuclear anxiety-and an ambitious peace initiative launched by survivors of Hiroshima. At its heart, the book explores how the fears of one generation can give rise to the hopes of another. Considering the state of the world today, it feels like the right moment to bring this story back into circulation.
