“But prove yourselves doers of the word, and not merely hearers who delude themselves”. James 1:22 Welcome to The Book of James, Discussion questions for a group study. Like the first book in this series, this is not a book in the normal way most people would think of one. It has no protagonist, antagonist, no plot or surprise ending. What it does have are questions. Questions about one of God’s books concerning practical Christian living. Questions which are designed to help create insights and encourage discussions about the way we use our words and actions to live lives which are pleasing to our Lord and Savior. To get the most out of this book everyone in the group should read over the chapter being discussed at least once during the days prior to your scheduled meeting. Of course, the more times you review the chapter the better the discussions can be. Don’t forget to ask God to guide your thoughts before you begin. After all, you will be tapping into the infinite source of knowledge and wisdom. Without the Holy Spirit to guide, the best of us will have a hard time getting much from God’s Word. Ensure each member of the group spends time meditating on the scriptures during the week. Give the Spirit the chance to work in your minds and hearts to open the Word to you. Don’t be afraid to find supporting verses in other Bible verse for the chapter being covered that week. If possible, it is best if someone is assigned to moderate the discussions to keep everyone on subject and to encourage the participation of all members. An individual with some experience and maturity would be preferred, but anyone who has some patience and is willing to keep everyone on-topic will work. May the Lord fill your mind and heart as you diligently seek His face through His Word. “But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does.”.
