Synology’s BeeStation is intended to be an easy-to-use personal cloud system for people who want something that works out of the box and does not require a lot of technical knowledge: something that sits in between cloud services like Google Drive or Dropbox and fully-fledged but more complicated Network Attached Storage systems, such as Synology’s own DiskStation. It largely succeeds in that goal, but it’s still more involved than simply turning it on and using it. The claim is that you can ‘Create your own cloud in minutes’, but realistically you will need to spend a little more time than that, especially if you want to make the most of this very useful device. And that is where this guide comes in, as the BeeStation is not supplied with a manual and the online documentation has limitations. It has been written according to the Goldilocks Principle: not too much information, not too little, but just the right amount.
