With the completion of the First Transcontinental Railroad in 1869, hundreds of thousands of immigrants poured into the West. This short guide seeks to provide trustworthy advice and information about types of work, wages and the climate. Agriculture was the primary industry, so most new immigrants found themselves working in the fields. The author has focused the majority of the text accordingly.
