Description

"Hungry Minds" is a very short autobiographical tale about bullying, reading, and what lies in the heart of a writer: especially a very young one. In the brief essay, the writer discusses awkward and painful experiences related to entering Junior High School. It is written from the juvenile perspective and is appropriate for young readers.

Author's Note: The little girl on the cover is me back in the 70s. "Hungry Minds" is a story about childhood bullying and how a love of reading and fictional characters saved my life as I was frequently isolated and often depressed. Much of the bullying I experienced in childhood was related to being the biracial child of interracial parents, but the story is focuses on bullying related to being a shy and studious child. While the type of bullying I experienced is less prevalent now, many children experience bullying today. My heart goes out to them.
