A written introduction to the history of railroads and their maps is followed by numerous scans of beautiful railroad maps of New York, New Jersey and Pennsylvania in the 1800s. All of the maps are shown complete, and many are also shown in segments with greater detail.
This book also contains two films:
1. The Big Train (1950s; Color; Public Domain) - This 26 minute film shows the daily operations of the New York Central Railroad (NYCRR). Produced and directed by Victor Solow; introduced by NYCRR president Alfred E. Perlman.
and
2. A Great Railroad At Work (1942; Public Domain) - This 39 minute film shows everything there was to know at the time about the New York, New Haven and Hartford Railroad.
