Description

Rupert Brooke was born at Rugby , Warwickshire in 1887. His rather privileged background prepared him for a academic career . He was known for his associations with the Bloomsbury group of writers which allowed him to pursue his poetic talents. However it is Brookes rather idealistic war poetry that made his name , most famous of all “The Soldier “ His idealistic poetry from the early days of the war contrasted greatly with Poets such as Wilfred Owen who lived through the horrors of trench warfare. He died from an infection in Skyros on his way to the Battle of Gallipoli in 1915 .
