This book is included in the 13th series of our “The Most Classical English Literature Library”. It is a selection of La Fontaine’s Fables, a classic work by a famous French fable poet. It is mainly based on Aesop’s Fables and has a high literary value and edifying effect, occupying an important position in the history of French literature and a high reputation in the history of world culture and education. La Fontaine transformed the prose fables with poetic style, making them rich in lingering charm and rhyme, easy to recite and remember, and therefore more artistically expressive and easy to spread. He created a free style of poetry called “long and short stanzas”, which is unconventional, with many variations in lines, syllables and rhymes, catchy, narrating and commenting, vivid and suitable for different levels of readers to recite, read, perform and enjoy.
