Description

High-performance skiing offers some of the greatest rewards and joys of any sport. The author has spent the winter half of his life enjoying these rewards through ski racing, freestyle competition, appearing in ski films, and helicopter skiing deep powder in the backcountry. He has primarily dedicated the past 50 winter seasons to coaching others in how to discover the highest joys that skiing has to offer. This has provided the background and motivation for writing this book as a way of sharing what he has learned over a lifetime of skiing and coaching. While many skiers aspire to experience skiing’s highest rewards, the vast majority have yet to succeed in that quest. What is holding these skiers back is not a lack of motivation, effort, or information; but instead an abundance of common misinformation that they are diligently trying to apply. The author refers to this pervasive misinformation as the ’21 Common Skiing Myths’ that can hold you back from ‘Discovering the Joy of High-performance Skiing’. Each chapter in the book contains an in-depth exploration of one of these false Myths. The author explains through words and photos why skiing under the influence of these misleading Myths is counter-productive and can block a skier’s progress and process of discovery. Each chapter then proceeds to explain the deeper truths of skiing hidden behind each Myth so that the reader comes away with a clearer understanding of great skiing and how to achieve it. Understanding these intricate truths is the key to experiencing the exciting sensations and rewards that come from that blend of finesse and power that constitutes what the author describes throughout the book as ‘high-performance skiing.’ The goal of this book is to expand the aspiring skier’s experience of skiing beyond what they may have previously imagined possible.
