In April 1988, a 37-year-old restaurant manager embarked on a 1,600 mile trek from Wyoming to Nashville, Tennessee, in hopes of singing on the stage of country music's Grand Ole Opry.
Accompanied by a young dog, and financed by the revenue he earned along the route, he battled blizzards and heat waves, sickness, wild dogs, renegade bikers, blisters and parasites through the states of Wyoming, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, and Tennessee for 84 days.
On July 23, 1988, his childhood dream came true.
