Description

Criminals are targeting the older people of Stoke Newington. News spreads of muggings, robberies and scams.

The police fail to act, not having a clue as to what is going on right under their noses.

Phyllis Nettle is at a loose end, her working life ended and her husband dead. She would kill for a shot of excitement. Looking after her friends and sorting out their problems is all well and good, but there has to be more to life than living it through others or watching it go by.  She is fired up by the crime wave against her community and friends. Not least because she fancies herself and her friend Dolly as a pair of sleuths, Nettle & Makepeace. Big on duty and a stickler for fair play, Phyllis is determined to bring the criminals to justice. Dolly is bulldozed into helping her longtime friend.

Only one problem.

Neither Phyllis nor Dolly has a clue about how to investigate. They make it up as they go along, adopting a guard dog, dressing up in disguises, and hunting the villains wherever they loiter—lonely cemeteries, seaside towns, country music jamborees. They rope in anyone who will help them.

The villains may have finally met their match.

Or have Nettle & Makepeace bitten off more than they can chew?
