“Grace, when was the last time that you ate, or drank anything?” It was time to bring the caregiver out.
She smiled just a little, and it tore my guts out. “Alex, I didn’t eat anything earlier because I wanted to fit into that string slingshot.” She giggled, and I couldn’t help but laugh with her. “So not only am I on fire, but I’m starved half to death, and thirsty too. What do you think we should do first?”
I know what I wanted to do, but that was not one of the choices. I examined Grace systematically to see how dire her situation was. “You haven’t seen how bad you are burned yet, have you?” She shook her head slightly.
