This book describes the preoperative, intra-operative, and immediate postoperative care of the cardiac surgery patient. Surgery with and without cardiopulmonary bypass is described as well as the multi-system effects. Four types of bypass grafts are detailed and post-operative care particular to each is outlined. The immediate postoperative threats are described, including a systematic approach prevention and treatment. Unexpected complications are reviewed and interventions outlined. The postoperative management specific to those with Aortic or Mitral Valve Replacement are detailed. The book concludes with “Words of Advice” from the author.
