Description

Why are so many apparently healthy people suddenly dying? While the autopsy reports from the Medical Examiner’s Office have ruled most of the deaths due to natural causes, a veteran Inspector senses that a serial killer may be lose in the city.

To see if his intuition is correct, he assigns Nora Tholey, a relatively new officer who comes from a ‘cop family’ and whose brother is an Assistant DA, to review the autopsy reports and the histories of the deceased to see if their deaths are connected in any way.

Tholey has only just begun her file reviews when she is reassigned to help investigate the murder of a young mother found strangled in the fitting room of a department store at a large mall. The case takes on extra importance to Tholey since she knew the woman: wife of her brother’s best friend. A media circus ensues.

Detectives are eventually able to identify the killer – the adopted son of a popular U.S. Senator - but can’t gather sufficient evidence to arrest him.

In the meantime, healthy people continue to die of apparent natural causes….
