Irish dramatist Lady Gregory, also known as Isabella Augusta, played an important part in reviving interest in Irish literature at the beginning of the 20th century. Also, together with W.B. Yeats, she was co-founded of the Abbey Theatre in 1904 and gave Ireland its own national theatre.
Lady Gregory is mainly remembered for her work behind the Irish Literary Revival. She wrote numerous short works, plays and produced a number of books of retellings of stories taken from Irish mythology. Published in 1909, “Seven Short Plays” is the volume of comedies and first of her dramatic works.
