Nutcracker and Mouse-King

Nutcracker and the Mouse-King was originally published in 1816 by the German author E. T. A. Hoffman. It was later adapted by the French novelist Alexandre Dumas and served as the basis for the libretto of Tchaikovsky's beloved ballet The Nutcracker.
