How can we protect our hometown from diseases? There have been many disease scares in the past, including Bird Flu, Swine Flu, MRSA, SARS, Mad Cow Disease, and many others.  What if an outbreak occurred that affected huge populations of people very rapidly?  What would that look like?  How would people react?  What would be done to prevent the disease from spreading further?

Outbreak! is a Project Based Learning Unit aligned to the Common Core State Standards (CCSS). In this project, you will:
Model the change in areas of infection during an epidemic with circles Investigate various geometric constructions and their applications for building physical boundaries during a quarantine Analyze the relationship between radii, arcs and areas of sectors
W-A-Y, Widening Advancements for Youth, is a non-profit organization based in Michigan, United States. In addition to creating Project Based Learning units, W-A-Y offers a personalized learning experience for students who struggle with traditional high school.
