All the creatures are found buried in rock and they cannot detach them! They can only remove the entire area beneath them, and alien artifact there.
The alien artifact has a small black flying saucer shape but with its force field on and with it buried in rock it resembles a block of black stone and they take it away on a ship and place it in a museum.
They start to determine that it is far more than they thought possible when the mechanism to open the entrance is unknowingly activated and a hole mysteriously appears in it, revealing that it is a form of alien artifact. They find the voyager inside waiting to be revived in suspended animation!
A silver sphere inside gives them telepathic visions of the records of its voyage. It produces visions from beyond the galaxy stars. A map of the universe shows them the course that it took. It starts at a place at the center of the universe, which it refers to as the center of space. Another silver sphere gives them some telepathic control of it and they learn many of its functions, including that it has artificial intelligence.
A vital control is damaged, sending it hurtling into space, and it plunges into the stars with them trapped aboard trying to repair it.
In the depths of the universe they encounter weird life forms and entities, including one with the dimensions of a small galaxy floating in a deep void, formed from masses of energy left behind from the big bang.
It travels endlessly on to a gateway at the center of space, where it voyages beyond space and time to where it came from.
The small voyager takes the explorers through new mind-bending universes, universe after universe, as it accelerates beyond anything experienced before with them endeavoring to flee, with no knowledge of where it is going or if they will survive!
