The Porcelain Pulse is about a girl made of Vltava river clay named River, who is a golem but tries to act as a human and has elegant movements, never mechanical. River does not have a soul or a voice, and a shem or the Hebrew word "emet" is usually placed in a golem's mouth or written on its forehead respectively, in order for the golem to gain life and are occasionally depicted dressed in simple clothing to fit in. However, since River is not human, she starts having to search for a soul for herself to fully live, and when she moves with fluid, heavy grace, she reveals that she is purely made of golem clay.
