“Ms. Cunningham,” the bartender said. “You're the spiting image of your mother. I'm so sorry for your loss.” His eyes went to the framed photograph on the wall. It was one Kathy had not seen before—her mother looked older than any pictures Kathy had of her—a little heavier. But there was no denying the resemblance between the two of them. It was one of the things that bothered her stepmother. "I'm Tex," he said and had Derek show her to what had been her mother's old bedroom.
"You look so much like her," Derek finally said. "Watching you move around the room brings back a lot of memories. I really miss her. She was a mighty fine woman, your mom."
