The true story of Solomon Northup, born a free man in New York State in 1808. He was kidnapped in Washington City in 1841 and spent the following twelve years as a slave on a Louisiana cotton plantation where he was abused.
After being rescued in 1853, Solomon Northup wrote this autobiographical story about his captivity. His book became a best-seller.
"Twelve Years a Slave" now a motion picture directed by Steve McQueen, starring Chiwetel Ejiofor, Michael Fassbender and Lupita Nyong'o.
