Each day for the month of September Rob Pepper would create a pen and ink drawing from his surroundings and send the picture to Matt Gierhart. In response Matt would illustrate the drawings with words creating a narrative that had been informed by the images. The resulting illustrated short story "She was As I Thought She Should Be" is a tale of two young lovers in Japan and their son's experimentation with New York. The piece was originally published as part of Rob Pepper's limited edition September Compendium published in 2006. Only 50 copies were ever made.
