Newly-retired Jess finds that it is still possible to have adventures: stewarding at the Glastonbury Festival, appearing on a teatime quiz show, distributing the prizes at a writing competition held in a haunted barn, and volunteering with a children's charity in Romania.
Jess continues to try to help her friends with various difficulties, but discovers that her assistance is often inappropriate and unappreciated. Then she finds herself on a storm-tossed cruise ship in the middle of the Baltic Sea with an ageing débutante and young cage fighter....
