In Europe and elsewhere, there are ALL KINDS of Santa alternatives who seem more appropriate for Halloween than Christmas.
There’s an evil French butcher who hangs out with St. Nicholas, for instance (that's Pere Fouettard). And an ogre-lady whose housecat goes hunting for children every Yuletide (that’s Icelandic Gryla). Then there's even an Italian Christmas witch, Befana, who flies around on a broomstick.
